Von Nebula

September 3rd, 2010 by admin

Von Nebula (7145)With the release of the new Hero Factory theme, I decided to review my favourite of these sets…the evil villain, Von Nebula.

Von Nebula is the leader of the Villains. Featuring spikey armour on his shoulders, and a fearsome staff, this model really does look the part. It is pretty well built and sturdy. The only thing that lets that down is the neck, which can be modified by using a blue +/0 peg in the second + hole and transferring the head to the second peg. Annoying I know, but it is possible to fix the problem.

The overall model itself looks amazing. Von Nebula is a fantastic black and blue combination which suits the character well. Standing over 22cm tall, he towers above the Heroes (and the other Villains for that matter).

Finally, the blades on the staff spin, creating a weapon fit for the leader of the Villains.

Technic Motorbike

September 1st, 2010 by admin

Motorbike (8051)This brilliant red Motorbike is one of the new additions to LEGO Technic.

Once built, this incrediblly detailed model includes spring-loaded front and rear suspension, a kick stand, and racing tyres. The great engine design really adds to the realistic look of the motorbike. As with most Technic sets, there are two models in one, with the second model being a Chopper Bike.

There is one small issue in that the chain tends to slip during play. Although if you want a nice shelf model this won’t be an issue. But it’s one thing to bear in mind where there will be plenty of use.

That issue aside, the actual model of the bike is fantastic and is fun to build. The alternative model also looks as good as the main model, making this set well worth getting your hands on.

LEGO Universe Update

LEGO Universe Front Cover

Well we’re all waiting for it, the release of the new Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG), LEGO Universe!

No it’s not out yet, but now the official date of release is set for 26th October 2010. Whether this date will change, as it has done previously (I assume for technical issues of some kind), I’m not sure, but that’s the date that has been given so far.

Initially the game will be available in English and German and is currently in the Closed BETA stage of testing. Pre-ordering entitles the player to early access to the game from 12th October 2010, a 30-day subscription and a code to allow you to play as an astronaut.

Currently you can pre-order LEGO Universe on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk

Harry Potter Hogwarts – New Game!

August 18th, 2010 by admin

Harry Potter Hogwarts (3862)Harry Potter Hogwarts is the new LEGO game just released this month! Players must race down the moving staircases, through secret passageways and manage to make it back to the common room with all of their homework to win the game.

The game is designed for 2-4 players, and you are able to choose from 9 different microfigures, including Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Draco Malfoy, Albus Dumbledore, and four different Hogwarts student microfigures – one from each house.

As with all LEGO Games, you must first build your board and dice before play can commence. This makes the game more personal, as you will have built the board yourself, and it all adds to the fun.

Gameplay is approximately 10-20 minutes, and is sure to keep Harry Potter fans occupied.

Ferocious Creatures: The Amazing New Creator Set

August 16th, 2010 by admin

Ferocious Creatures (5868)When I first saw this set I was amazed by the amount of detail in each creature model. With Ferocious Creatures, you have the ability to build three different models depicting “ferocious creatures”, including a crocodile, dinosaur, and a deep sea fish.

The crocodile is my personal favourite in this 3-in-1 set. This model features snapping jaws, operated by a lever on the creature’s back, and it’s tail whips from side to side, which I think is just brilliant. Apart from that, the crocodile is an incredibly detailed model once built and very lifelike. I also love the emerald green colouring and red eyes. The two colours really bring out the best in this model.

The T-Rex style dinosaur is also quite charming and looks very ferocious indeed. Even the deep sea fish looks like it would take a chunk out of you if it wanted to. I also very much like this model for the sheer amount of detail, especially the scary looking jaws!

Anyone who loves scary-looking creatures will be dying to get their teeth into this set (excuse the pun!).

Slave I

August 9th, 2010 by admin

Slave IThe new 8097: Slave I LEGO Star Wars set has been released to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes back! This fantastic new addition to the Star Wars theme includes the wonderfully detailed Slave I ship and 4 minifigures (Han Solo, Boba Fett, Bounty Hunter, and Bossk).

The Slave I features a cockpit which rotates independently from the ship, hidden flick-firing missiles and other hidden weapons. Fully built, it measures 33cm (13″) long and 33cm (13″) wide.

The Han Solo minifigure can be locked into a “carbonite” brick, similar to that found in set 6209: Slave I.

There are plenty of secret storage compartments within Slave I and the structure of the fully built ship is very good indeed, meaning it doesn’t fall apart very easily.

Plenty of LEGO Star Wars fans are sure to love this model, and this 573 piece set is not to be missed!

August 3rd, 2010 by admin

10213: Shuttle AdventureShuttle Adventure is the brand new Town set made by LEGO! This brilliant set has only just recently been released and looks absolutely amazing. This space-themed set features a space shuttle ready to blast off on it’s mission into space.

The shuttle itself is incredibly detailed and looks very realistic, is white in colour and consists of 1204 pieces! The shuttle is 44cm tall and 25.5cm wide, making this quite a large set.

The shuttle features realistic engines, retractable landing gear, an opening cockpit with seats for 2 astronauts, opening cargo compartment with a crane that can hold the satellite and a ground maintenance vehicle.

There are three minifigures in this set, one male and one female in astronaut outfits and one service crew member.

This brilliant set is perfect as either a display model or for those who love anything space-related.
